Dermatofibroma

Key high-yield points

  • Site - most commonly lower limbs (anterior shin); also trunk and upper limbs
  • Morphology - firm, well-circumscribed, dome-shaped dermal nodule, 0.5-1.5 cm
  • Colour - skin-coloured, pink, or light to dark brown
  • Dimple (Fitzpatrick) sign - pathognomonic: lateral pinching causes central inward puckering due to fibrous tethering to overlying epidermis
  • Symptoms - usually asymptomatic; occasionally mildly pruritic or tender
  • Demographics - young to middle-aged adults; female predominance; multiple lesions (≥5) associated with immunosuppression (HIV, SLE)
