- Septic shock = sepsis with circulatory, cellular, and metabolic abnormalities severe enough to substantially increase mortality. All three criteria must be present (Sepsis-3):
- Confirmed or suspected infection
- Vasopressor requirement to maintain MAP ≥65 mmHg
- Serum lactate >2 mmol/L despite adequate fluid resuscitation
