  • Statutory duty under the Health Protection (Notification) Regulations 2010 - this is the law, not a guideline
  • Notify the Proper Officer at the local council / Local Health Protection Team (LHPT)
  • Notify on clinical suspicion - do NOT wait for laboratory confirmation
  • Verbal notification immediately, written notification within 3 days (urgent cases within 24 hours)
