HELLP syndrome

  • Complicates ~0.5-0.9% of all pregnancies; ~10-20% of severe pre-eclampsia cases
  • Up to 30% of cases present postpartum (typically within 48 hours of delivery)

Hypertension and proteinuria may be absent or mild in up to 15-20% of HELLP cases at presentation - do not exclude HELLP based on their absence.
